Power factor is an expression of energy efficiency. It is normally expressed as a percentage, for example 96%, the lower the percentage, the less efficient power usage is.

When entering a Power Factor value in to the kVA Calculator enter the Power Factor value percentage as a decimal number, i.e. for 96% enter 0.96.

#### How to calculate kVA from Amps

To calculate kVA from Amps or Amps to kVA we use the following formulas.

Calculate kVA from Amps formula:

Single Phase –
**kVA = Volts x Amps ÷ 1000

For example, if Volts = 300 and Amps = 15 then,

300 (V) x 15 (A) ÷ 1000 = 4.5 kVA

#### How to convert kW to Amps

The formula for converting kW to Amps is:

#### Amps to kVA

The Single Phase Amps to kVA Formula is Amps x (times) Volts / (divide) 1000 = kVA.

For a working example lets assume Volts = 230 and Amps = 32, then the Amps to kVA calculation would look like this,

32 x 230 / 1000 = 7.36 kVA
